#Ramadan Arabian Nights #2015 : The Cursed lady’s Wall “Ep.12”

It is a new chapter in our tale this year, the tale of the Cursed lady’s wall. It is the chapter concerning that beautiful mermaid who saved Nour last night.
Now listen to the episode because it is very interesting.

Our mermaid’s name was Seas Mermaid and she was the daughter of “San-Gor”, the king of the Seven seas and a human woman. Nevertheless, she was kept in the dark by her father and grandmother under the sea. She did not know that she was half-human.

The blood cycle won’t stop in #Egypt “Updated”

Earlier today, Egypt’s Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat survived was killed in an assassination attempt in Heliopolis where a car carrying TNT targeted his car convoy in his way to work in Downtown Cairo.
The explosions resulted from the attacks were heard in Heliopolis. The photos are showing a huge explosion. At least ten were killed in the explosion including the prosecutor general appointed in July 2013 following the ouster of Morsi.

#Ramadan Arabian Nights #2015 : The Cursed lady’s Wall “Ep.11”

What I expected to happen in last night’s episode , things are going to change upside down in our tale , the talk of the Cursed Lady’s wall.

Kodak Agfa Presents : #Ramadan Nights in Zeinab Khatoun House Cafe

Egyptians love to spend their Ramadan nights outdoors whether in cafes or restaurants or by the Nile.
Some may even spend all night outside their houses till Dawn prayers where they eat their Suhur. It became a social tradition between youth especially. I think it started in the 1990s with the spread of the so-called “Ramadan tents” offering Suhur as well as Shisha and sometimes musical segments with famous singers.
Now it is all about open air space, Shisha, good food and a nice place to hang out with your friends.
We are in summer and you can imagine how this is making many young people go out.
Zeinab Khatoun House

Now one of the places in Cairo people hangs out in Ramadan nights as Your Kodak Agfa discovered last week was the unique Zeinab Khatoun House café in the heart of Islamic Cairo, in Al-Azhar quarter.
Originally built in the 14th century, Zeinab Khatoun house is from the oldest remaining houses from that era that still keeping its identity and history amazingly.
It is named after its famous owner in the 18th century Lady Zeinab Khatoun who helped the Egyptian resistance against the French occupation led by Napoleon Bonaparte in Cairo.
The Zeinab Khatoun House
The Zeinab Khatoun House
I think her name was attached to the house since then.

Save Shawkan , Esraa and Peter

I do not know what to do but we have to keep the noise for both photographers Shawkan , Esraa Mahfouz and Peter Youssef as much as we can for the sake of their health.
Shawkan , Esraa and Peter

According to Freedom for Shawkan official Facebook, Mahmoud Abu Ziad aka Shawkan’s health is deteriorating rapidly as he is infected with Hepatitis “C”. He got it before his detention.
Shawkan
He is also suffering from anemia and lack of proper health treatment in the prison. On Thursday, Freedom for Shawkan Facebook page published a letter from Shawkan which he wrote from behind
the bars in Tora prison on 21 June.
In the letter, Shawkan slams the decision of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s decision to pardon 165 detainees from youth arrested in protesting-related charges. Shawkan wonders why he was ignored in that presidential pardon when most of the detainees are released turned to be Pro-Morsi supporters and members of the Muslim Brotherhood when the regime attacks the Brotherhood day and night designated it officially as “Terrorist organization”. He also says in his letter 900 people were arrested with him during the dispersal of Pro-Morsi Rabaa sit-in and that almost all the member of the Brotherhood arrested with him were released , the prosecution is insisting to keep him and more than 300 others since then behind bars. Shawkan does not understand why the regime calls the MB members “terrorists” and releases them when it insists that he should stay in jail.

#Ramadan Arabian Nights #2015 : The Cursed lady’s Wall “Ep.7 ”

Now we are introduced to the tale of wise Sheikh Mansour , “The Shah Bander” of traders in the city of Gor and how he became a wealthy man as he started to tell it to his son in the 7th episode of our tale.

Shiekh Mansour was not born rich, but he was born to a wise man who used to be a scholar.
That wise man used to work to earn his living and to support his family despite his knowledge and
that what he taught his son Mansour: To work.
Despite the knowledge Mansour had, he used to make wicker baskets living modestly with his wife Zohara.
Their luck turned to the greener side when Mansour found a way to turn the wicker into a soft texture using his some chemical mixtures and thus he made wonderful bags and baskets.
Selling them with high prices, Sheikh Mansour earned  more customers and more money. Wise Mansour decided to invest his new fortune at the same time his wife Zohara was crying day and night for lacking a child despite their growing wealth.

#SaudiCables : The Wikileaks mania reaches the Kingdom

Thanks to Wikileaks, the Middle East has something to speak about than the usual talk: The Saudi Cables.
On Friday, Wikileaks began to publish the first batch of 70,000 Saudi diplomatic top secret documents out of half a million cables. Since then journalists in the Arab world began to search inside the Wikileaks to see what is hidden in the first batch of  cables released from 2010 to 2015.The only Media partner of Wikileaks in the Arab world if not the whole world this time is Lebanese Al-Akhbar Newspaper.
No other Arabic newspaper has joined forces with Al-Akhbar and Wikileaks in this adventure like what happened with the U.S cables.
Interestingly in April the Saudi ambassador envoy to Beirut Ambassador Ali Assiri accused the left-leaning newspaper of being a tool in the hands of Hezbollah and Iran for its opposition against the war in Yemen.
It created a controversy during then and the Lebanese journalists considered it an attack on the press freedom in their country.
Of course as soon as Wikileaks announced its big announcement, the Saudi government announced that the cables were fake and the citizens should not spread them otherwise they would face legal consequences. The Saudi ministry of foreign affairs published those tweets on the same day.

Dear citizen : Do not spread documents that could be fake and help the nations' enemies in achieving their goals.

Dear citizen : avoid going to any website in order to get any leaked documents and information that could be untrue in order to harm the national security.
Some Saudi tweeps hinted out that actually those tweeps made more Saudis pay attention to the Saudi cables in Ramadan.

#Ramadan Arabian Nights #2015 : The Cursed lady’s Wall “Ep.5”

And the old man begins to read what is written on the deerskin introducing us to a new tale in the 5th night of “The Cursed lady’s wall”

Sunday, June 21, 2015

#Ramadan Arabian Nights #2015 : The Cursed lady’s Wall “Ep.4”

The tale goes on especially that the Sultan is asking all the priests in the city to read that Cursed lady’s strange manuscript deer skin. Tonight is the episode 496th from the radio show as well our 4th episode in this tale, the tale of the Cursed lady’s wall. You can hear the 15-minutes episode below and after the break you will find the synopsis in English.

#June21 : Egyptian Women Protest For Detainees At the Presidential Palace

Dozens of very brave Egyptian women protested at the Presidential Palace in Heliopolis demanding the release of the detainees in Egypt. The protest is organized on the anniversary of the famous Anti-Protest law march to presidential palace from a year ago which ended by arresting a group of activists above them Yara Salem and Sanaa Seif
Yara, Sanaa and other young protesters were sentenced to three years in jail for illegal protesting in no time when you think about for standing the Unconstitutional protest law.
Today’s protest was led by Mona Seif, the renowned activist and Sanaa’s sister.
Mona Seif and the women protesters holding lanterns and banners
"Salam Said"
The numbers were higher than what I expected from what the eyewitnesses’accounts say as well photos on Twitter.
The protesters including relatives of detainees hold their photos as well small Ramadan Lanterns.
A group of policewomen came to the protesters and told them that it was better to leave because they were in Ramadan and so on but they insisted on completing the protest till the end.It took one hour.
On the other hand, the policemen harassed the journalists and photographers covering the protesters and took their cameras and mobile phones deleting their photos showing the protest like BBC journalist Farid Farid.
Shady Hussein : They took from my mobile phone and erased all the photos and videos I filmed for the protest demanding the release of the detainees. Farid was left to take photos later by his mobile phone.
According to him, the number reached to 100 and this could be unprecedented from a long time in that place. Many of them got sons and brothers who are in prisons now for political reasons.
Nevertheless, some photos made it online on the spot. I am updating the Photo gallery with more photos as it seems there is no media coverage for real for this important protest which reminds me of the Mothers movement in 1970s Argentina.

#Ramadan Arabian Nights : The Cursed lady’s Wall “Ep.3”

And the tale goes on and on.

After bringing down the wall as well the ruins of the old cursed lady’s house and finding a small box with a golden lock in a cavern underneath the wall and the ruins , the Sultan was on the verge of opening that box when the Cursed old lady appeared screaming “Stop”.

“Stop do not open the box , stop enough what you had done already” she said angrily , after all that mob led by that man destroyed the rest of her wall and her house as well stole her golden bar.

They also took the Wonder box as she called it with no right what so ever. She kept screaming angrily till Vizier Nooman attempted to calm her down as well intimidate her indirectly telling her that she was standing in front of the Sultan himself and she had to behave.

Caring less, she told the Sultan that as his subject he abused her rights. With no right, he took her home from her and ordered that her houses and wall to be brought down. With no right, he took her golden bar. With no right, he took her wonder box.

The Sultan told her that she was right and he would compensate her. First, she will live in a new house instead of the one destroyed. Second she will take back her golden bar and third he wanted the box but he wanted to know what was in it. She tells that if he wants a box then she will start an auction for the higher bidder.

In that short auction, there were only competitors: The old cursed lady and The Sultan. The Sultan won the auction and bought the box for a huge fortune that made the Sultana made for real !!

In his palace,  the Sultan opens the Wonder Box with the golden lock with the help of a Jeweler who tells him that he had not seen a box like that from a long age. They open the box. They find in the box: A money pouch and deer skin.

There were strange letters inscribed into the deer skin that no one can identify. The Sultan orders his viziers to bring him priests to decode those strange letters. They find in the box: A money pouch and deer skin. There were strange letters

#Ramadan Arabian Nights #2015 : The Cursed Lady’s Wall “Ep.2”

And our tale continues with the Cursed Lady’s wall which was brought down by the earthquake in the first episode. I won’t speak a lot because I am already late in posting this episode.
You can listen to it here.

The King and his vizier went with the guards and the masons to bring down the cursed lady’s wall site , they found the people still standing wondering about the golden bars found in the wall. The king and the vizier see the golden bars by their own eyes and knew it was not myth. The king orders the masons and workers to bring down the wall and search beneath it. One of the workers find a door with golden knob in to the ground. The workers tried to open the door but in vain as no human can make. In the end the king decided to the horses to open the door. It worked and the door turned to be leading to a cavern.
and search for that treasure the people are speaking about. Upon their arrival to the
Vizier Nooman decided to go down and explore the cavern. There he found a box with a very interesting golden lock.
He brings back the box to his king. Just as they are going to open it , they hear the awful scream of the old cursed lady ordering them to stop immediately.
Tomorrow we will know why the old scary lady ordered them to stop and what happened between her and the king in a new Arabian night.

Esraa El-Taweel is Found and Facing charges

After 16 days of her forcible disappearance , Esraa El-Taweel suddenly surfaced at the State Security Prosecution last Wednesday where it turned out that she was being interrogated for the second timeHalim Hanish spotted Esraa El-Taweel at the State security prosecution on Wednesday and informed her family. He knew that it was the second time that she was interrogated twice and that she was detained at Al-Qanatar women Prison.
Esraa and her cat Woody in Dahab, South Sinai
Earlier this year
since her disappearance. Human rights lawyer
Wednesday’s evening or rather in the early hours of Thursday a police force headed to Esraa’s house where they confiscated 5 laptops from her home. According to her mother and sisters, they were mistreated as expected by the officers rudely. They made her sister Doaa El-Taweel sign a statement that she would come to get the laptops and attend the interrogation with Esraa next day.
On Thursday, the State security prosecution decided to adjourn the interrogation of Esraa till next 28 June !!
On the same day, Al-Shorouk published a report about Esraa where an unnamed informed source n judiciary claimed that her arrest and detention were legal and did not violate any laws or Constitution articles “!!”
The source added that Esraa is accused of belonging to a banned group “The Muslim Brotherhood” and spreading false information and news about the injustice of the Egyptian judiciary as well photos showing the unjustified violence of security forces against the protesters on the social media and to foreign entities “!!!!”
Those charges are ... seriously I can not find anything to say.
Of course, this is considered an unofficial statement.
There is nothing published in the media about Sohip and Omar or the charges they are facing or anything.

#Ramadan Arabian Nights #2015 : The Cursed Lady’s Wall “Ep.1”

It is Ramadan Smile
and it is Egyptian Chronicles’ annual time for Egypt’s Old Radio Arabian nights once again.
This year Scheherazade will tell us the tale of the Cursed Lady’s Wall which is a very interesting and amusing tale or rather a tale inside a tale as usual.
Aired in the 1960s I believe, this tale started in the 493th episode of the One Thousand and One Nights Radio show on the Egyptian main state radio channel. Yeah, that show had more than 400 episodes. They do not do this anymore in radio or in TV in Egypt.
Now a quick reminder: The One Thousand and One Nights radio show was created and produced by the Radio Legend Mohamed Mahmoud Shaaban aka Papa Sharo. The stories of the show were inspired by the original Nights book and they were written by Taher Abu Fasha. The show was narrated by a number of famous Egyptian actors. Of course, Scheherazade was narrated by legendary Egyptian actress Zozo Nabil.
Now enough talk and let’s go to our tale.

Kodak Agfa : Ramadan Kareem 2015

First of all Ramadan kareem to all the people around the globe. I wish you very happy and blessed Ramadan.
Second here is the annual post showing the latest trends in Egypt’s Ramadan Lanterns “Fanous” in 2015.

This year in Egypt , something very important has happened. In order to save the local traditional lanterns industry in Egypt, a decision was issued in last April to ban the import of imitations to Egyptian traditional products above them the lanterns.
Personally I see less plastic Chinese Ramadan lanterns than the usual this year but the Chinese Ramadan lanterns are still there because workarounds.
Already the Children’s plastic lanterns are more of games now than traditional lanterns. Any importer can claim that those Chinese Plastic lanterns are toys and get away from that ban order.
I did not find the Sisi on a car lantern but I found Dora, the explorer this year.

DSC08987

For adults, the Chinese exporters presented this year a collection of wrought-iron or as we call it in Egypt in French “Fer Forge" lanterns. Designed in Moorish way, they look elegant  with the stained glass. Nevertheless, they do not look like Ramadan lanterns but rather elegant lanterns for your home or your garden all year long.

Esraa El-Taweel and Friends are found ..unofficially

At last after more than 16 days people know where photographer Esraa El-Taweel and her friends Sohip and Omar are..unofficially. Several eye witnesses from detainees and inmates at Tora farm prison confirmed that Sohip and Omar arrived and are currently detained by security forces there.
Now early Tuesday a friend of Esraa visiting Kanater women prison found her.

Zeinab Mohamed said on her Facebook account that she had seen her at the prison wearing the same clothes she wore when she disappeared according to her family. This means that Esraa has been only transferred on Tuesday unofficially to that prison which follows the ministry of interior.

Posted by Zeinab Mohamed on Tuesday, June 16, 2015
It is worth to mention Egypt’s ministry of interior, Public Prosecution and prisons authorities deny till this moment that Esraa and her friends are detained in the first.
Needless to say despite it is still detention, many of Esraa’s friends are glad that she is found. Yeah, the ceiling is lower than we have thought in Egypt now !!
By the way, the 2014 Constitution has specific articles related to detention I hope that the government and the ministry of interior remember very well. Specifically the articles 54, 55 and 56 if I am correct especially article (54). Article (54) stipulates the following:

A Very small stand for a bigger Cause

Just from few moments ago, Egyptian tweeps knew that there has been a very small and sudden stand in front of the Presidential palace in Heliopolis this afternoon in solidarity with recent victims of forcible disappearance.
The girls at the presidential palace "Nermin Hussein"
They were 7 girls, yes 7 girls carried banners with the photos of Esraa, Sohip and Omar in front of
The girls and policemen
"Nermin Hussien"
the Presidential palace as well anti-Sisi banner. Those girls were not arrested. Some journalists were in the scene luckily. They stood for a short time till the police officers urged them to leave.
The girls left but at least they left a message that there are still crazy young people who can go to the street holding a banner against the president. Of course I wonder what would happen to those girls later.
It is day 14 following the absence Esraa, Sohip and Omar.
Now the families of Sohip and Omar got confirmations from detainees at Tora farm prison at Tora prisons complex that both young men are currently detained there. Yet again the prison administration denied that both Sohip and Omar are detained there !!
There is nothing about Esraa unfortunately so far.
It is frustrating and alarming.

Where are Esraa El-Taweel and friends ?

Where is Esraa El-Taweel? Where is Sohip Saad? Where is Omar Mohamed?

For 13 day, Freelance photographer and University student Eraa El-Taweel has  disappeared along with her friends Sohip Saad and Omar Mohamed in Maadi since 1 June 2015 when they all went for horseback riding and then dinner.
Sohip , Esraa and Omar
They have not been seen since then. Their mobile phones have been closed yet last week the families of El-Taweel and Mohamed got missed calls from their mobile phones for one just one second and then the mobile phones went off.
The Ministry of interior as well the military prosecution denied that they were detained as their facilities and detention centers as it was spread earlier.
There was a popular theory that Esraa was arrested because she was taking photos at the Corniche El-Nil in Maadi and the military police arrested her and her friends. Nevertheless
I know Esraa El-Taweel as a blogger and tweep.
She is also a very talented photographer in the revolution who is outgoing and cheerful, loving life and adventure.
Esraa and her camera
She was raised in Saudi Arabia where her father works yet she came to Egypt to complete her university  study. A friendly person, El-Taweel had friends from Islamists , liberals and leftists. El-Taweel was close and a friend to many young MB members and she used to take photos of their weddings. Yet Esraa El-Taweel is not an MB member.
She used to cover the protests but she was not a political activist.
On 25 January 2014, the cheerful and outgoing girl was shot by security forces when they dispersed the protests at Mostafa Mahmoud square during the commemoration of the January revolution anniversary.
The injury made her lose her ability to walk and already there is another firearm shot was still in her body, in her stomach to be precise that can not be extracted. For many months, Esraa could not move and was using a wheelchair. Only from couple months ago Esraa began to move around without a wheelchair.
After her injury, Esraa began to lose in politics and called her friends not to go to Pro-Morsi rallies and protests because they would either shot down or injured or arrested. She was only cared about her family, her friends and her pets especially her cat Woody. Now Woody is depressed after the sudden absence of her friend and does not want to eat.

Why am I saying all this?

Remember, Remember the Fifth of June

Yesterday was the 48th anniversary of the Six days war defeat in Egypt or as we called it “The 67 setback”.
Nasser’s media and later the Egypt’s media called it a “setback” and not as a defeat because “defeat”word was affecting the morale of the Egyptian army and the Egyptian people. Also Nasser’s era should not hold any “defeats”, it was only a “setback” that hindered the progress of Nasser and we would stand high out of it as usual.

We stood high indeed once again and we restored Sinai through war and peace. Yes the Egyptian army restored its dignity through a magnificent attack plan that wiped the disgrace of the Field Marshal of Nothing Abdel Hakim Amar’s withdrawal plan but till this day Egypt, Middle East as well the World suffer from this defeat.

I do not need to speak about the reasons of why Egypt was defeated politically and militarily. We all know why we were defeated and it was not because the Israelis were more advanced.
Anyhow this year I would like to present to you a special look to the Egyptian press from 48 years old ago.
Those were the issues of Al-Messa Daily newspaper, Egypt's oldest evening newspaper from 48 years ago , from 5 June 1967 to 8 June 1967. Nasser declared the defeat on 9 June 1967.
On 5 June 1967

Once again time for internet Revolution in Egypt
