Follow Up : Lebanon Crisis , news, maps, cartoons and myths

News :

  • Today the Arab Foreign ministers are going to meet to Cairo to

  • discuss too late as usual the Lebanese crisis, I do not know what they can do , already the millions Saudi Arabia spent to help the 14th of March parties against Hezbollah did not do anything.
  • The signal of the Future TV channels on the Nile Sat is back , but without broadcasting; only a white screen with a message informing the viewers that they will return so soon.
  • Al Arabiya officially in the last 48 hours became the spokesperson of the 14th of March against Hezbollah in the region.
  • Al Jazeera somehow was neutral.
  • Hezbollah's Al Manar was so clever to air quotes from the late Hariri SR over and over as the martyr Hariri said in their promos.
  • The famous TV host and astrologer Magi Farah met on a daily basis in the last three days with the leaders of the opposition.
  • Things are very quiet in Lebanon , taking in consideration that the army is controlling most of both the pro-government and oppositions areas and today is the weekend in Beirut Sunday"
  • The clashes between the pro government supporters "Future Movement" and the opposition supporters "Omar Karami"moved to Tripoli in the north, this is a Sunni-Sunni clash in a Sunni populated area ,the clashes were not easy 15 persons as far I know till now were killed from both sides.
  • The Future movement lost because two reasons they depended on private security companies , these companies do not fight for a specific ideology but for money , when things get rough, they will leave the place , second these militias or companies somehow are new , they did not trained or lived the tactics of the civil war in Beirut despite the fact they are said to be trained in Egypt and Jordan !!??
  • The Christian factor surprisingly was out of the clash this time , may be it was intended to make a Sunni-Shiite Islamic clash as the 14th of March wanted , I think it was good for the Christians to stay away this because this somehow made it limited.
  • The Druze in the mount are involved and this time , the fight inside the same sect between this leader militias and that leader's militias, also the Sunni in Tripoli had their share.
  • Here I am speaking about demographics , it is not about religions differences , it is about politics and regional powers
  • This crisis revealed that no one in Lebanon gives a damn for the Ta'af agreement , all parties got armed centers and militias whether from the 14th of March government or from the opposition
  • Lebanon got too many parties in a stupid way !!??
  • Hezbollah is mad for the kidnap and murder of three of his elements by the Walid Jumblatt's supporters in the mount , the Druze leader said that he would investigate the incident.

The Myths

In our official Egyptian regime media that supports blindly the 14 of March parties in Lebanon , the terms of Hezbollah elements did this and Hezbollah arms are out there are used frequently without no consideration what is already happening in Lebanon.

Myth#1 The weapons of Hezbollah , Hezbollah till now did not use its weapons , these weapons in the streets are the weapons of its supporters from the other parties and other parties weapons , most if not all the parties of opposition had a long history in the civil street wars in Beirut and have their militias ready for the others

Myth#2 The elements of Hezbollah , Hezbollah did not release its fighters to the streets and here I mean the fighters who kicked the ass of the IDF in the south , no no no , they are too smart to release them and they are too careful to waste them in such tiny conflict. Those who were in the streets of Beirut were from Amal elements , their green flags were there , the elements from other opposition parties were there and the supporters and non fighting soldiers of Hezbollah were there , if you watch Al Jazeera as they were neutral then Al Arabiya , they are always mentioned the Amal , the Syrian party , the Baath party ,the whatever party but there is direct mention to Hezbollah. I am ready to bet that Israel wished that the fighters of Hezbollah were involved in this fight.

Look I do not defend Hezbollah because it does not need my defend but here I mention something should be cleared ,it is clearly that in a country in Lebanon you can't be neutral , you are either with these or with those

The maps

Thanks to beautiful Farfahinne and her comrades Bassem and Sursock these are very important maps that give your insight to the current crisis , these three maps ,two for Beirut and one for Lebanon , the two maps for Beirut will show the places where the opposition used to control in the city and the one for Lebanon will show the places where the current clashes are .

The clashes are in Sidon "Future Movement Vs. Amal and Hezbollah", it is mixed area , the clashes are in Chouf at the mount between the Druze teams from both side. The clashes of course in Beirut and some part in Bekaa , and in the north you got the clashes between in Tripoli and Akkar on the borders between Lebanon and Syria , between the Sunni groups . As you can see the conflict did not reach most Lebanon and as I hinted above the Christian parts did not engage in the tiny fight this time.

Here is Beirut , most of under the control of the red dots aka the opposition in the last couple of day before evacuation to the army. Here is another map for Beirut shows where the clashes were concentrating

Cartoons:

Nothing better to end this post with a very powerful Nagi Al Ali cartoon

  1. In Jordan, the Hajaj cartoon published also had a Lebanese flag split in two, but instead of Israel's flag in the middle, it had Hezbollah written along with a guerrilla's arm holding a rifle.
